Social Media Takes People Lives

I choose this topic because I felt that suicides caused by cyberbully is a serious problem. Cyberbully is the use of technology to bully a person, or threatening individuals online. Cyberbullying has become more common nowadays because of the technology that children have access to. The most common apps that teenagers use to cyberbully are Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. Cyberbully is very influential in the psychology of children and adolescents, they can at any time do dangerous things because they cannot stand cyberbully. I found a lot of teens died at young age caused by cyberbully in their social media such as twitter , facebook ,instagram, etc.
There is an article saying that a lot of people lose their lives because of cyberbully. Dallasnews.com states that "Bullying has always been a major issue for adolescents, but there is now greater connection between bullying and suicide," said child psychiatrist Benjamin Shain, the report's lead author. "Cyberbullying, for example, is as serious a problem as face-to-face bullying."
The problem of this more teenagers nowdays died at their own hands than are killed by others, and part of the blame may lie in their online habits. With example like in January, Ritu Sachdeva and Hillary "Kate" Kuizon, two 17-year-olds attending Plano East High School, took their lives within hours of each other. And in April, former Plano West student McCann Utu Jr. stabbed his mother and his brother to death before taking his own life.
In Utu's case, the 19-year-old shared his thoughts on Twitter days before killing his mother, Stacy Fawcett, and brother Josiah.
“You owe it to yourself to make your internal dreams become a physical reality,” he wrote April 8. “I will probably be the next to die ...”

According to the centers for Disease Control in 2015 the number of suicides among teen girls hit a 40 year high and among teen boys the number of suicides rose by 30 percent between 2007 – 2015

The graphic above shows the increasing number of suicides not only teens but also seniors every year. The reasons may caused by economic problem or something that make them depressed and a lot of them started cyberbullied.

Adolescent cyberbullies have been found to engage in other problematic behaviors as well. For example, they have been found to be more likely to engage in substance abuse and have higher levels of participation in school violence.Parents play an especially important role. Students who bully online are more likely to report poor parent-child relationships and a lack of parental monitoring of online behavior.A lot of parent didn’t look after their children well, they just paying attention at their child physics. When their children can’t stand any longer, they start talking with their parents how they feel about cyberbully. But their parents told them to let go and doesn’t care about it, and the kid start felt depression by themselves. After that, their mental won’t be stable and start doing something dangerous to their body such as slit their pulse, hit their head against the wall, make their body hurt, or thinking to suicide by hang themselves up in their room. Parents attention is the most important things in this case, in giving the intended attention that is by looking at what they felt during this time when in school or collage, did anyone bully him/her in school. Teen had a unstable mental at that age, if parent not pay attention to them carefully they might kill themselves without thinking in right mind.

My first solution for this problem is you have to report it . If you are facing cyberbullying from somebody you go to school or collage with, report it to the teacher. If somebody is threatening you , spreading out your personal information or making you afraid for yourself, alert the police or any adult that can help you at soon as possible. Secondly is keep your social media accounts private and do not connect with any unfamiliar person on the social media. They might have motives and deceive you about their identity, which can put you and the people you care about at danger. The third is talk to them. Sometimes, it may be wise to request that a teacher or responsible adult arrange a session of mediation between the bully and you if you both go to the same school or collage. Mediation may be scary but is often found incredibly powerful. It is essentially a face to face conversation between you and the bully in a controlled, equal environment. And lastly is use available tech tools. Most social media apps and services allow you to block the person. Whether the harassment’s in an app, texting, comments or tagged photos, do yourself a favor and block the person. You can also report the problem to the service. That probably won’t end it, but you don’t need the harassment in your face, and you’ll be less tempted to respond. If you’re getting threats of physical harm, you should call your local police (with a parent or guardian’s help) and consider reporting it to school authorities.

In conclusion although the internet and mobile phones communication systems make our lives easier and play a very important role in our activities, it is unfortunate that they have been poisoned and destroyed by being used to abuse others. The positive aspects of the internet and mobile phones cannot be questioned or enumerated however what I am mostly certain of is that the negative aspects are just as great in number and in seriousness. As a Kevin Brennan said: “Cyberbullying is the unacceptable face of new technology, and we need concerted action across society to address it. Schools must play a key role, and this new guidance will help them to identify and tackle instances of cyberbullying more effectively, as well as providing practical advice and information on how to prevent it.” Parents, law enforcement and educators all need to take caution with watching over children in order to prevent cyberbullying. If everyone comes together including educators, law enforcement and the biggest role, the parents, then cyberbulling can be stopped. The next time these 12 to 17 year olds log onto the internet, maybe they wont be affected by cyber bullying if everyone begins to work together.
